Here is a statue of King Sejong. If you don't know anything about King Sejong, look him up. He was really cool. He is one of the favorite kings of Korea because of his incredible advancements in science, writing, and technology. He and his scientists created the angbuilgu (concave sundial), the waterclock, astrological charts, star mapping equipment, rainfall guages, river level guages, new instruments, and most importantly, written Hangul - the system of writing that is still in use today, many hundreds of years later. Hangul changed the literacy rate in Korea so that nearly everyone in Korea could read and write in a few short years. Prior to the creation of Hangul, common people could not learn the numerous and complex chinese characters, and as such, could not read or write. We also visited his tomb, which was beautiful and wonderous. Posted by Hello
