This is a pavillion called "Gyeonghoeru". It was built when the palace was first built and was supposed to be a "guest house" for visitors to the palace. It was enlarged in 1412 then again several time after that. It's in the middle of a man-made island, connected to the rest of the palace ground by 3 bridges. It is national treasure #224.

It's also on the 10,000 won note...
True, true. Thanks for the comment. I suppose I can take this opportunity to mention to everyone that there are several denominations of bills here in Korea. The ones in common circulation are the 10,000 bill (man-won), the 1,000 bill (chun-won) and the 5,000 bill (o-chun-won). As for coins, there are 500, 100, 50, and 10 denominations. In terms of conversion, 10,000 won is worth more than CAD $10, but it's easiest to just think that 1,000 won is worth about CAD $1. It can get awkward carrying about 30 man-wons if you want 300,000 on you for shopping... but there are also cheques that ATMs issue that can be of any denomination - and they can be used exactly like a bill - no signing necessary. Cool, huh?
