Jo and I went to a museum of Shilla history. Originally, Korea was made up of 3 kingdoms - and Shilla was the greatest. It's capital was Kyeong-ju, and the Shilla kingdom unified the three countries into one. I think that's how it goes... Anyway, pictured here is the bell that was cast by an emperor in memory of his dead father. Apparently, the bell did not sound right, and he never completed it properly in his lifetime. When his son succeeded him, he had a dream in which he was told to recast the bell, but this time, to have a priest add the pure blood of an innocent infant to the molten steel. A pure and innocent baby was thrown into the fires that cast the bell. It is said that the first time the bell was struck, it rang with the cries of the child's death wails. Spooky, huh? This bell is the largest of its kind in all of Asia, weighing in at over 18 tons and standing over 3.8 meters high.
